Minutes

1. Welcome and Roll Call

   Meeting called to order at 12:05 pm by Arlene Colvin, Board Chair.

   Attending:

2. Approval of Agenda

   Motion to Approve the Agenda put forth by Nadine McDowell, second by Alyce Butler.  Motion carried via unanimous roll call vote.

3. Approval: Minutes of February 10, 2021

   Motion to approve the Minutes of February 10, 2021 put forth by Nadine McDowell, second by Alyce Butler.  Motion carried via unanimous roll call vote.

4. Superintendent Report

   Kevin Teasley presented his Superintendent's Report, noting that enrollment was up 6% from last year, the College and Career Readiness Rate (CCR) is the best in NW Indiana and 35th in the State (top 10%), and the graduation rate for last year was 94.4%, the best in Gary.  He also discussed with the Board the upcoming NIET grant, which will allow significant investment in the TAP program, as part of NIET's grant to the GEO Academy network.

   After discussion, Motion to postpone the vote on the school grade re-configuration, pending additional information on adding playground space to the 4-7 building, put forth by Arlene Mitchell Pace, second by Alyce Butler.  Motion carried via unanimous roll call vote.

   
   

5. Approval: 2021-22 Calendar

   Motion to approve the 2021-22 School Calendar, subject to amendment as needed, put forth by Alyce Butler, second by Arlene Mitchell Pace.  Motion carried via unanimous roll call vote.

6. Approval: School Reopening Plan

   Motion to approve the School Reopening Plan put forth by Alyce Butler, second by Nadine McDowell.  After discussion, Motion carried via unanimous roll call vote.

7. Approval: Revised By-Laws

   Board attorney Shelice Tolvin presented the Revised By-laws, as reviewed by the School's By-laws Committee.  Motion to approve put forth by Arlene Mitchell Pace, second by Alyce Butler.  After discussion, Motion carried via unanimous roll call vote.
