Here are a few things you need to know:

  • The Board may elect to limit public comments on any item to 30 minutes. 
  • Comments are greatly appreciated, however, please note that the Board cannot enter into a formal discussion, nor can a decision be made on any item that is not already on the agenda. Items the Board wishes to consider for future discussion can be placed on an upcoming agenda.
  • Routine items are part of the Consent Calendar and are approved by a single vote of the Board. When the agenda is adopted, a member of the Board can pull an item from the Consent Calendar and move the item to the agenda for discussion.
  • Individuals who require special accommodation to participate in a board meeting, including but not limited to an American Sign Language interpreter, accessible seating, or documentation in accessible formats, should contact the Superintendent’s office 48 hours before the meeting to enable the district to make reasonable arrangements to ensure accommodation and accessibility to this meeting.
  • To ensure that non-English speakers receive the same opportunity to directly address the Board, translation of written or oral comments will be available.

Members of the public may present public comments in two ways:

Individual speakers may speak for a maximum of three minutes on any two topics and one minute on any additional items. Requests from the public to speak on a specific agenda item must be submitted before the end of public comments on that item.

      In June of 2024, Nordhoff Leadership through International Volunteer Expeditions (L.I.V.E.), a student-run international service organization based at Nordhoff High School, in Ojai, California, aims to send eleven Nordhoff students to Laos, where they will take part in ongoing community construction and renovation projects in Luang Prabang.

    2. Approval of Contract with Finish Line Paving, Inc. - Mira Monte Drop Off Zone

      Action

      Staff is asking for approval of the contract with Finish Line Paving, Inc to provide additional parking spaces by formalizing a gravel area at the bus loop, replacing 3 planter zones with parking spaces, adding a pedestrian walkway off the street sidewalk (asphalt over base) and slurry / restripe of the main parking lot.

    3. Nordhoff Stadium Demolition – Change Order # 1 Removal of Asbestos and Drainage Cleanup

      Action

      Staff recommends the Board approve the proposal from UBC Inc. in the amount of $ 3,788, with an additional NTE amount of $ 2,500 be approved.  Funding to be provided from Measure K.

    4. Approval of Contract between Southern California Edison and Ojai Unified School District in order to Grant an Additional Property Easement to Service Nordhoff Staff Parking Lot EV Charging Stations

      Action

      Ojai Unified School District has an agreement with EV Gateway Sales to install EV charging stations at the Nordhoff staff lot. The proposed easement agreement is recommended for Board approval in order for SCE to provide service to the charging stations.

    5. Citizens Oversight Committee Appointment

      Action

      Advertising was done locally to invite citizens of Ojai to apply for membership on the Citizens Oversight Committee (COC) for the voter approved bond measures J and K in accordance with the laws related to the bond accountability. Staff recommends Mr. David Hurwith be appointed to a two year term on the COC committee.

    6. Consideration and Approval of Myers, Widders, Gibson, Jones & Feingold, LLP ("MWGJF") Contract

      Action

      The District desires to retain and engage MWGJF Law Firm to perform legal and, upon request, non-legal consultant services on the District’s behalf. MWGJF Law Firm accepts this engagement on the terms and conditions contained in this Agreement.

    7. Consideration and Approval of Atkinson, Andelson, Loya, Ruud & Romo ("AALRR") Contract

      Action

      The District desires to retain and engage AALRR Law Firm to perform legal and, upon request, non-legal consultant services on the District’s behalf. AALRR Law Firm accepts this engagement on the terms and conditions contained in this Agreement.

  11. Curriculum/Instruction
    1. Approval of Resolution# 23-24-14: Resolution in Recognition of African American History Month

      Action

      February is Black History Month, an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. This Resolution recognizes the important historical and ongoing contributions of African American individuals in our society.
