Here are a few things you need to know:

  • The Board may elect to limit public comments on any item to 30 minutes. 
  • Comments are greatly appreciated, however, please note that the Board cannot enter into a formal discussion, nor can a decision be made on any item that is not already on the agenda. Items the Board wishes to consider for future discussion can be placed on an upcoming agenda.
  • Routine items are part of the Consent Calendar and are approved by a single vote of the Board. When the agenda is adopted, a member of the Board can pull an item from the Consent Calendar and move the item to the agenda for discussion.
  • Individuals who require special accommodation to participate in a board meeting, including but not limited to an American Sign Language interpreter, accessible seating, or documentation in accessible formats, should contact the Superintendent’s office 48 hours before the meeting to enable the district to make reasonable arrangements to ensure accommodation and accessibility to this meeting.
  • To ensure that non-English speakers receive the same opportunity to directly address the Board, translation of written or oral comments will be available.

Members of the public may present public comments in two ways:

1. Before 3 p.m. the day of the meeting, public comments can be made in writing by clicking this link: Make a Public Comment. Written comments will be sent to Board Members by 3 p.m. and will be posted on our website.

2. Public comments may be made in person during the meeting at the Boardroom - 414 E Ojai Avenue, Ojai, CA 93023, Ojai, CA. Individual speakers may speak for a maximum of three minutes on any two topics and one minute on any additional items. Requests from the public to speak on a specific agenda item must be submitted before the end of public comments on that item.

      On July 7, 2023, the District received communication that the Historic Preservation Commission, during their July 13, 2023 meeting, will have an agenda item to discuss use of Ojai Unified School District properties as offered to the Community for public input by Ojai Unified School District.

  6. Adoption of Consent Calendar
    1. Approval of Food & Nutrition Services Piggyback Contracts for School Year 2023-24

      Consent

      It is the recommendation of the District Administration that the Board of Trustees approve the piggyback Contracts with Gold Star Foods for grocery products, and with Imperial Dade Paper and Individual Foodservice for paper supplies for School Year 2023-24.

    2. Q4 Williams Activity Report

      Consent

      The County Superintendent of Schools is required by California Education Code Section 1240 to report on a quarterly basis the results of Williams Lawsuit settlement visits to the school district governing board. Pursuant to Assembly Bill (AB) 599 (Chapter 667, Statutes of 2021) effective on January 1, 2022, the most recent criteria for schools eligible for monitoring under the Williams settlement legislation. As outlined in AB 599, schools that meet the criteria are eligible for monitoring under the Williams settlement legislation.

    1. AB 1200 Disclosure and Public Hearing/Comment for the Re-approval of the Tentative Agreement between Ojai Unified School District and Ojai Federation of Teachers Local 2119

      Action/Public Hearing

      On June 28, 2023, the Board approved the Tentative Agreement between the District and the Ojai Federation of Teachers.; however, the Board did not agendize the AB 1200 disclosure although AB 1200 disclosure forms were made available to the public, before public comment and before the Board took action. Out of an abundance of caution,  The Board is being asked to again review the AB 1200 Disclosure form and to Re-approve the ratified Tentative Agreement between Ojai Unified School District and the Ojai Federation of Teachers. 

       

    2. AB 1200 Disclosure and Public Hearing/Comment for the Re-approval of the Tentative Agreement between Ojai Unified School District and Classified School Employees Association and Its Ojai Valley Chapter #333.

      Action/Public Hearing

      On June 28, 2023, the Board approved the Tentative Agreement between the District and the Classified School Employees Association and Its Ojai Valley Chapter #333; however, the Board did not agendize the AB 1200 disclosure although AB 1200 disclosure forms were made available to the public, before public comment and before the Board took action. Out of an abundance of caution,  The Board is being asked to again review the AB 1200 Disclosure form and to Re-approve the ratified Tentative Agreement between Ojai Unified School District and the Classified School Employees Association and Its Ojai Valley Chapter #333.

    3. Consideration and Approval of Salary Increase for Management and Unrepresented Staff

      Action

      In accordance with past practice, staff recommends increasing the salaries of management and unrepresented staff at the same percentages approved for Ojai Federation of  Teachers Local #2119 and Classified School Employees Association and It’s Ojai Valley Chapter #333. The offer that was ratified for both unions was 4% retroactive to July 1, 2022 and 3% effective July 1, 2023.

    4. Oral Report Summarizing Recommendation for Action on Compensation for Superintendent

      Information

      This matter is held in open session at a regular meeting of this Board in accordance with the Brown Act. Government Code section 54953, subdivision (c)(3), states that prior to taking final action on executive compensation, the Board must orally summarize the recommendation for final action on the salary, compensation, and/or fringe benefits that will be considered. The Board President will provide a summary of the compensation provisions in the Superintendent’s Contract. Copies of the Superintendent’s Contract will be provided prior to any Board discussion and vote. After public comment, this Board will consider and take action on the item.

    5. Consideration and Agreement to the Effective Terms of Employment Contract for Superintendent

  10. Business, Operations, and Facilities
    1. Ratify Topa Topa Field Restoration Contract

      Action

      On June 28, 2023, Bond Managers presented information regarding the proposed field and quad restoration for Topa Topa Elementary School, Project 2023-1514. Seven contractors attended the mandatory job walk with two submitting bids for the project. This proposal will include: new irrigated turf play field, decomposed granite track, compacted softball field, new ADA access to track & field, quad concrete seat walls, and modifying existing retaining wall for emergency access. 

    2. Ratify Nordhoff C Wing HVAC Replacement Contract

      Action

      On June 28, 2023, Bond Managers presented information regarding the proposed Building C HVAC Replacement for Nordhoff High School, Project 2023-1747. Five contractors attended the mandatory job walk with ultimately only one submitting a bid for the project. This proposal will include: replacement of seven split system HVAC units from 1997, installing new package roof top units, new Pelican thermostats, new electrical sub-panel, and minor structural upgrades per DSA approved plans.   

    3. Ratify Nordhoff Stadium Design Services Contract

      Action

      On June 28, 2023, Bond Managers presented information regarding the proposed stadium improvements project for Nordhoff High School, Project 2023-1741. The scope of the Stadium Improvements will include: new home bleachers for a capacity of 1500 occupants, new press box, new stadium lighting, new scoreboard/track timing systems, fencing, and DSA required restroom upgrades. The proposal from PJHM Architects includes: Civil Engineering, Structural Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Landscape Architect and Professional Renderings.

    4. Ratify Nordhoff Tennis Courts Contract

      Action

      On June 28, 2023, Bond Managers presented information regarding the proposed installation of six (6) new tennis courts at Nordhoff High School, Project 2023-1742. This proposal will include: installing six (6) new competition tennis courts, lighting, and an accessible drop-off/ loading zone.
