Here are a few things you need to know:

  • The Board may elect to limit public comments on any item to 30 minutes. 
  • Comments are greatly appreciated, however, please note that the Board cannot enter into a formal discussion, nor can a decision be made on any item that is not already on the agenda. Items the Board wishes to consider for future discussion can be placed on an upcoming agenda.
  • Routine items are part of the Consent Calendar and are approved by a single vote of the Board. When the agenda is adopted, a member of the Board can pull an item from the Consent Calendar and move the item to the agenda for discussion.
  • Individuals who require special accommodation to participate in a board meeting, including but not limited to an American Sign Language interpreter, accessible seating, or documentation in accessible formats, should contact the Superintendent’s office 48 hours before the meeting to enable the district to make reasonable arrangements to ensure accommodation and accessibility to this meeting.
  • To ensure that non-English speakers receive the same opportunity to directly address the Board, translation of written or oral comments will be available.

Members of the public may present public comments in two ways:

Individual speakers may speak for a maximum of three minutes on any two topics and one minute on any additional items.     9. The Approval of the Second Group to Go to Catalina Island Marine Institute Field Trip for 8th-9th Graders


      The 8th and 9th grade students who were unable to go on their Catalina Island Marine Institute trip due to COVID have the opportunity to go in May. This is the second group that will be going. There will be approximately 60 students, 2 teachers, and 3 chaperones.

      In March of each year, Women's History Month honors and celebrates the struggles and achievements of American Women throughout the history of the United States. The Ojai Unified School Board would like to proclaim the month of March as Women’s History Month and encourage all district schools to commemorate this occasion with appropriate instructional activities.

    2. Approval of Resolution #23-24-19 : Recognition of Arts Education Month


      In March of each year, the state recognizes the importance of Art and Music in Schools. The Ojai Unified School Board would like to recognize the significant efforts of our staff and community in bringing arts education to Ojai Unified students.

      Chris Danch, from OVFSC, will give an update on their Community Resilience Center Project and discuss next steps.

      On February 15, 2024 the board announced Susan McDougal as their intended appointee to represent the Ojai Unified School District to the Ojai Unified Personnel Commission. A public hearing now needs to be held and approval confirmed.

    2. Additional Proposals of the Ojai Federation of Teachers to the Ojai Unified School District for Initial Contract Negotiations


      The Ojai Federation of Teachers (OFT) has provided an additional letter to the Board President indicating the desire to open two additional articles in contract negotiations.

    4. Consideration and Approval of Resolution #23-24-27 Resolution of Intention to Dedicate the Approval of an Easement Allowing SCE for the Meiners Oaks Early Education School Property Project


      The proposed resolution outlines the District's intention to dedicate approval of an easement to Southern California Edison (SCE) at Meiners Oaks Early Education School, facilitating SCE's access to supply power to electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. Upon approval, the District will hold a public hearing at its next regular Board meeting scheduled for April 17, 2024, to consider and authorize the easement.

    5. Approval of a Ceiling for Bus Service Provider Costs for Home to School Transportation


      Staff recommends the Board approve an increase in total spending ceiling from $155,000 to $200,000 for bus service provider costs for the 2023-24 school year in order to secure transportation through the end of the school year for East End Service of Home to School Transportation.

    8. Nordhoff's Future Farmers of America (FFA) Pilot Barn Project at Meiners Oaks Early Elementary Site


      Nordhoff FFA is interested in establishing a permanent barn at Meiners Oaks Early Elementary School (MOEES) and has been in the exploration process of determining needs and funding sources including possible grants. As a part of the exploration process, FFA would like to establish a temporary barn space at MOEES in the spring and summer of 2024.

    9. Consideration and Approval of Utilizing the San Antonio Campus for Summit School Teachers Who Currently Work Out of the Meiners Oaks Early Elementary School Campus


    10. Consideration and Discussion of Expanding the Rock Tree Sky Licencing Agreement to Include Classrooms at San Antonio


    11. Approval of Annual Update on the Transportation Plan


      Districts are required to annually submit a transportation plan to the Board of Education by April 1st each year to receive additional state funding as outlined in (EC) Section 39800.1.
