Board of Directors Meeting - Notice of Regular Session

Pursuant to A.R.S. §38-431.01 and A.R.S §38-431.02 notice is hereby given to the general public that the Board of  Directors of ASU Preparatory Academy, will hold a Regular Session, on Tuesday April 9th, 2024  via Zoom https://asu.zoom.us/j/84031417702 or dial into +1 602 753 0140 Meeting ID: 8403 1417 702 at 9:00 AM AZ.

Those who are unable to participate virtually are invited to ASU Preparatory Academy's District Office located at 1130 E University Dr. STE 230, Tempe, AZ 85281. Persons with a disability may request a reasonable accommodation: such as a language interpreter, by contacting ASU Prep Academy at ASUPrep@asu.edu or by calling 480-727-2435 . Act (29 CFR 35.106; Notice)

Copies of the agenda and supporting materials will be available 24 hours prior to the meeting online at https://asuprep.asu.edu/governance/ or you may review the agenda in person at the District Office or each school's main office. The Board reserves the right to change the order of items on the agenda, with exception of public hearings. One or more members of the Board may participate in the meeting by telephonic communications. Pursuant to A.R.S. §38-431.02(H) the Board will not discuss, consider, or decide those matters not listed on the agenda. Pursuant to A.R.S. 38-431.03 (A)(3), the Board may vote to go into Executive Session, which will not be open to the public, to consult with its attorney and obtain legal advice on any matter listed on the agenda.

    1. Approval of January 23, 2024 Regular Session Meeting Minutes

      It is requested that the Board of Directors approve the Regular Session Meeting Minutes for January 23, 2024.

    2. Approval of Consolidating Charters
      1. Charter Consolidation Plan

        Presented by Leah Lommel, Chief Admin Officer.

      2. Approval of the Consolidation Plan

        It is requested that the Board of Directors approves the Charter Consolidation Plan submitted by Administration, which will have the effect of consolidating all ASU Preparatory Academy immersion sites under the charter for Phoenix High School, LEA 91303 and eliminating all other existing charters for ASU Preparatory Academy's immersion sites.

      3. Approval of Campus Grade Levels

        It is requested that the Board of Directors approve the adjustment of the grade levels of ASU Preparatory Academy's campus sites as follows:

        Casa Grande will serve grades 7-12

        Phoenix Elementary will serve grades K -6

        Phoenix High School will serve grades 7-12

        Pilgrim Rest will serve grades K-8

        Polytechnic Elementary will serve grades K-6

        Polytechnic High School will serve grades 7-12

        South Phoenix Elementary will serve grades K-6

        South Phoenix High School will serve grades 7-12

  5. Executive Session

    Pursuant to A.R.S. §38-431.03(A)(3), the Board may go into executive session, which will not be open to the public, to consult with its attorney and obtain legal advice on any item listed on the agenda.

ASU Prep Educational Highlights

Presented by Betsy Fowler, Head of Schools and Jill Rogier, Head of Schools.

ASU Prep Academy Polytechnic Elementary received the A+ School of Excellence Award. 


ASU Prep Pilgrim Rest is the first elementary school in the world to launch a Dreamscape Pod. Students can receive supplemental immersive knowledge in various subjects such as biology, history, civics, etc. 

Students from ASU Prep Academy Casa Grande, Downtown, Poly, and South participated in the Change the World: Rising Innovators Challenge answering the question, "How Can I Change the World?".  Presentation proposals included: Airline Passenger Safety and Crash Damage Control, Unpacking the Dropout Rate, Enhancing Safety and Productivity in Workshop Classrooms, and Beyond the Streets - a transformative program addressing homelessness and supporting self-sufficiency.

ASU Prep Digital STEM trip to Belize. Students had the opportunity to study water ecology, went zip lining, encountered bats up close, visited Mayan ruins and so much more. This was the first international field trip, another is planned for next year.

ASU Prep Digital Summer Camp. Students across the US and abroad are able to participate in summer camps for grades K-8 during June and July. Nine different summer camps are being offered.

ASU Prep 5 Year Review

Presented by Betsy Fowler, Head of Schools.

All three ASU Prep South Phoenix Charters were recommended for renewal authorizations. The committee comments were specific to the respect seen on campuses, praise for the growth of college going practices and commitment to serving learners and closing achievement gaps.


Financial Update

Presented by Phil Netolicky, Chief Financial Officer.

Phil reported that ASU Prep Academy is projected to end the year in the positive. Our product development team is on track to finish the high school suite of digital courses to be ready for this next school year. Phil thanked the teams for their diligence around managing the budget this year as well as planning for next year. More information on next year's budget to be presented in the upcoming board meetings.

2024/2025 Instructional Time Model

Approval of Action Items

It is requested that the Board of Directors approve the Regular Session Meeting Minutes for January 23, 2024.

Julie Young made a motion to approve the January 23rd Regular Session Meeting Minutes, Seconded by Amy McGrath.

Approval of Consolidating Charters

Presented by Leah Lommel, Chief Admin Officer.

Megan Warren presented the consolidation plan.


Katie Ratlief congratulated the team on all the work they have done and the work that is ahead. She also mentioned she believed this choice is the smartest and most efficient way to move forward.
